Why did Derry stop Madrid between Atletico and Real for 10 minutes?
Sports| 29 September, 2024 - 8:51 PM
The referee of the derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid stopped the match for 10 minutes on Sunday evening due to Atletico fans throwing objects onto the pitch.
Referee Mateo Busquets stopped the match in the 68th minute, due to the "projectiles" thrown by the Rojiblancos fans at Courtois, Real Madrid goalkeeper, after he celebrated scoring the opening goal, at the "Civitas Metropolitano" stadium, in the eighth round of the Spanish League.
The referee completely evacuated the field of players after he caught some lighters thrown by angry Atletico fans because their team was behind by a goal, and the referee took them to the match supervisor who implemented La Liga's instructions to evacuate the field.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported that an internal announcement was made at the stadium "to stop the match for 10 minutes due to the throwing of various objects. If the projectiles do not stop, the match will be over."
Mohamed Aboutrika said during his analysis of the match on beIN Sports that the referee applied the protocol followed in La Liga this season by evacuating the stadium due to the projectiles towards Courtois and racism.
Atletico Madrid players and their coach Simeone tried to talk to the fans to stop these actions.
The referee ordered the players of both teams to leave the field in the 68th minute, to head to the locker rooms, where the match will be stopped for 10 minutes to calm the fans.
