Al Wahidi tribes hold protest in Shabwa
Dozens of citizens demonstrated in Shabwa Governorate, eastern Yemen, on Thursday evening, demanding the disclosure of the fate of one of those forcibly disappeared in the prisons of the Transitional Forces in Abyan Governorate, for about a year.
Local sources said that dozens of sheikhs and dignitaries of the "Al Rahma and Al Wahidi" tribes organized a popular demonstration in the "Al Matar" area in Al Rawdah District, to demand revealing the fate of the young man "Rakan Saeed Ali Barhama", who has been forcibly disappeared in the prisons of the Transitional Council for nearly a year.
A statement was issued by the demonstration, in which the protesters confirmed that "they searched for their son since his disappearance, through all peaceful and legitimate means in the governorates of Aden and Abyan," confirming that "he was kidnapped at the Shaqra checkpoint, and was transferred to the October 7 prison, in the Khanfar area, in the Zinjibar district, affiliated with the Security Belt Forces, in the center of Abyan governorate."
The protesters demanded that "the governor of Shabwa, the leadership of the security forces, the Transitional Council formations, and the Giants in the governorates of Shabwa and Abyan, quickly work to release him, reveal the reasons for his kidnapping and arbitrary disappearance, release him, and hold the perpetrators of the crime accountable."
The Al-Wahidi tribes and the Al-Barhama sheikhs confirmed "continuing the escalation until the fate of their son is revealed," calling on "human rights organizations to stand with the case of the kidnapped Rakan Barhama."
On October 20, 2023, Rakan Barhama was kidnapped from an armed checkpoint in Shaqra District, Abyan Governorate, without knowing the reasons.
