The Hadhramaut General Conference approved holding escalatory activities to achieve what it called "the demands of the people of Hadhramaut", and forming committees to manage those activities in the coast, valleys and desert of Hadhramaut (eastern Yemen).

The conference said in a press release on its Facebook page that its president, Sheikh Amr bin Habrish Al-Ali, issued a decision on Tuesday to form an escalation committee to achieve Hadhramaut’s demands.

The decision included forming a main escalation committee in the Hadhramaut Coast directorates, consisting of 10 people, and another committee for the Valley and Desert directorates, consisting of 8 people.

The statement indicated that the decision came in implementation of the outcomes of the extraordinary meeting of the leadership of the General Conference and the statement of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance issued on July 13 and 31, respectively, and that these committees work under the supervision of the President of the General Conference of Hadhramaut and the leadership of the General Secretariat to achieve Hadhramaut's demands.

This announcement coincided with the continuation of angry protests, for the second day in a row, in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate, denouncing the collapse of electricity service and the continued power outage for long hours, reaching about 15 hours.

Yesterday evening, protesters closed a number of streets in Al-Mukalla neighborhoods and burned damaged car tires, in protest against the deterioration of electricity service.

According to sources from Yemen Youth Net, the security services and elite forces arrested young men (without knowing their number) and fired into the air in order to disperse the protesters and reopen the roads.

For months, the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, led by Bin Habrish, has been leading an escalation against the legitimate government, setting up protest camps and erecting checkpoints to prevent the passage of oil trucks, whose revenues they demand be allocated to service projects in the governorate, most notably electricity. The alliance also demands that the governorate be represented through the “Hadhramaut Comprehensive” component as a major and independent party in any peace consultations in the country.
