Protests in Mukalla - Activists
Today, Monday, the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate in eastern Yemen, witnessed riots and street closures in protest against the power outage.
Local sources said that angry protesters closed the entrances to the city of Mukalla and burned damaged car tires on the roads, which caused traffic obstruction.
The sources explained that the average power outage reached about 10 hours, compared to two hours of operation, during the past three days, noting that the power has been out since this morning.
For its part, the General Administration of Hadhramaut Coast Electricity Corporation said that the increase in the number of hours of power outages in the city of Mukalla and its suburbs is due to fuel shortages.
She added on her Facebook page that the electricity system is witnessing a deterioration and an increase in power outage hours, due to a shortage of operating fuel, which has led to the generation stations being out of readiness.
She pointed out that the generation deficit caused problems in the transmission lines and distribution networks, noting that the 132 kV electrical transmission lines coming from the central Al-Rayyan power station to the city of Mukalla suffered a malfunction, which caused the station to go out of service since this morning.
She stated that technical teams have been working since the morning to repair faults in the transmission lines (132 kV) with the aim of restarting the Al Rayyan Central Station and enhancing the generating capacity.
