The Health and Population Office in Hays District (south of Hodeidah) has issued an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Health and health organizations to do their duty to limit the spread of cholera in the district, in light of the cessation of support for the diarrhea treatment department in Hays Rural Hospital for two months.
The Director General of the Office, Dr. Muhammad Talib Hamna, confirmed in the appeal published by the local authority media that the hospital receives daily cases of watery diarrhea and cholera, noting that deaths have been recorded in the past two days.
He explained that serious and confirmed cases of cholera were recorded and arrived at the isolation center for diarrhea, and their infection with cholera was confirmed after sending more than 6 cases to the central laboratory in Taiz.
He pointed out that the epidemic has become endemic in the directorate, amid great difficulties faced by health authorities to overcome the increasing numbers of patients and the lack of government and relief support for the hospital.
Dr. Hamna warned of the catastrophic situation the directorate is suffering from due to the spread of this dangerous epidemic, which has begun to threaten the lives of thousands of residents, calling on the Ministry of Health and relief organizations to support the unit to carry out its duty to the fullest extent.
