Marib.. 18 deaths and more than 1,300 cases of cholera during 2024

The health authorities in Marib Governorate announced the recording of 18 deaths and more than 1,300 confirmed and suspected cases of cholera in all the governorate's districts during the current year 2024.

Director of the Health Office in Marib Governorate, Dr. Ahmed Al-Abbadi, said that 18 deaths, 70 confirmed cases of infection, and 1,280 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in all the governorate’s directorates since the beginning of this year.

During the launch of the health awareness campaign in more than 100 schools about the cholera epidemic, which was launched by the Health Office today in cooperation with the Education Office in the governorate, he stressed the importance of launching this awareness campaign in schools.

Al-Abadi called for the unification of all official and popular efforts to make the campaign a success and achieve its goals in confronting this deadly epidemic and limiting its spread and prevalence.

He praised the role of health education volunteers in the governorate in enhancing community awareness and changing some misconceptions, practices and wrong community behaviors that transmit many epidemics and diseases and contribute to their spread and prevalence in society.

The campaign aims to deliver health messages about the cholera epidemic to school students and through them to the community, as part of the plan to confront the epidemic and limit its spread and spread after dozens of confirmed cases and dozens of suspected cases were recorded in the governorate.

The campaign targets 36,000 male and female students in 101 schools in the directorates of Marib, Wadi and Harib, to raise their awareness of the dangers of the cholera epidemic, its transmission methods, and how to deal with and prevent it.

The campaign will be implemented over a period of 5 days by 90 male and female health education volunteers in the governorate, under the supervision of the National Center for Health Information and Education and funded by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Emergency Fund.
