The Health and Population Office in Hays District (south of Hodeidah) has issued an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Health and health organizations to do their duty to limit the spread of cholera in the district, in light of the cessation of support for the diarrhea treatment department in Hays Rural Hospital for two months.

The health authorities in Marib Governorate recorded more than 1,300 deaths and infections from the cholera epidemic in all the governorate’s districts during the current year 2024.

Health authorities in Taiz Governorate have recorded 7,306 cholera cases and 48 deaths since the beginning of this year.

A group of scientists has answered a question - a mystery that healthcare professionals have been searching for a solution to since 2018 - about why cholera patients in Yemen are not responding to antibiotics, especially with indications that genes capable of resistance to the drugs have emerged.

A recent report revealed that cholera cases in Yemen have risen to nearly 220,000 since the beginning of this year 2024, most of them in areas under the control of the Houthi militia, in northern Yemen.

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) launched the “Integrated Emergency Response to Cholera in Yemen” project, with the aim of enhancing medical capabilities in 26 medical facilities to combat the epidemic and limit its spread in 6 governorates, at a cost of 1,825,000 Qatari riyals.
