For six days now, the directorates of the temporary capital, Aden (southern Yemen), have been witnessing a near-total power outage; without any official clarification from the relevant authorities about the reasons for the outage.

Local residents said that power outages in various directorates of the temporary capital have continued since the beginning of the week, at a rate of up to 20 hours, compared to only 4 hours of operation.

Citizens and local media reported that these outages were the result of most power stations going out of service due to fuel shortages, but the General Electricity Corporation did not issue any statement explaining the reason for the outage.

Late last month, government sources told Reuters that the Yemeni government was facing an unprecedented financial crisis due to the delay in the fourth financial installment pledged by Saudi Arabia, amounting to $200 million, about a month ago, which caused a delay in the payment of employees’ salaries for two months and the inability to provide fuel for power plants.
