Marib: Yemen Youth Net
A government report revealed that about 20,000 displaced families were affected, with 44 deaths and injuries, due to the heavy rains and strong winds that hit Marib Governorate (eastern Yemen) since the beginning of this year.
This came in a report by the Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Marib Governorate, on the emergency summary issued yesterday, Wednesday, for the period from January to August 2024.
The Executive Unit said that during the reporting period, Ma'rib Governorate was exposed to a wave of torrents and violent thunderstorms that caused severe damage to displacement camps and sites.
"This natural disaster caused the death of 9 people and injured 35 others, adding to the ongoing suffering of displaced families in the governorate," she added.
The report added that the floods and storms had extensive impacts on the homes and shelters of the displaced in 175 camps and sites, resulting in the damage of 19,795 families, including 3,450 families that were completely damaged, losing their homes and belongings and becoming exposed, while 16,345 families were partially damaged, as their homes and belongings were damaged, which increased their vulnerability and their inability to meet their basic needs.
The report indicated that despite the efforts made by the local authority and humanitarian partners, the percentage of interventions did not exceed 21% of the total needs of the affected families, indicating a severe shortage of necessary aid, calling for an urgent and comprehensive humanitarian response to provide adequate support to those affected in order to alleviate their suffering and rebuild their lives under these difficult circumstances.
