A recent government report revealed that nearly 16,000 displaced people in Marib Governorate (eastern Yemen) were forced to leave their homes and take refuge in displacement camps in the governorate since the beginning of this year.

The Executive Unit for the Management of Displaced Persons Camps in Marib Governorate said in its “Displacement and Departure Tracking” report for October that its information provider team monitored the displacement of 64 families, representing (384 individuals), from their rented homes in the governorate to displacement camps during last October.

She explained that the total number of families displaced from their homes to displacement camps since the beginning of the year until the end of last October amounted to 2,478 families consisting of 15,877 people.

She pointed out that the reasons for the displacement of these families for the second time are due to their deteriorating economic conditions as a result of the crisis the country is going through, the lack of sustainable sources of income for them, and the threats of eviction due to their inability to pay the accumulated rents, in addition to the weak humanitarian response and the lack of cash assistance projects allocated to displaced families in rented homes.

The Executive Unit called on humanitarian partners to quickly meet the needs of displaced families who were forced to seek refuge in camps, and to provide livelihood projects to secure a sustainable source of income for them, in addition to meeting and supporting cash assistance projects to cover the needs of those who are still in their rented homes and are threatened with eviction.
