For his part, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said that Iran and what he called its agents remain a "permanent threat" to Israel after the Israeli army announced that it was preparing a response to the Iranian attack.

This comes at a time when the commander of the US Central Command arrived in Israel amid its preparations for the attack on Iran, which is expected to take place in the coming few days.

Iranian threat

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during his visit to Damascus that "every action has a proportionate and similar reaction from Iran, and perhaps a stronger one," stressing that Tehran will respond forcefully to any Israeli attack.

He added, "The most important issue today is the ceasefire, especially in Lebanon and Gaza," he said.

Tehran had threatened Israel that it would respond by striking its "infrastructure extensively and comprehensively" if it responded to its attack last Tuesday.

Tensions are rising after Tehran launched a massive missile attack on Israel on Tuesday, saying it was in retaliation for the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31 in a strike attributed to Israel, and the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli raid on September 27 that also killed a senior Iranian Revolutionary Guard official.
