About 30 people survived drowning on Saturday, as a result of water leaking into a fishing boat that was transporting them from Hadhramaut Governorate to Socotra Island, amid the continued suffering of the people of the archipelago located in the Indian Ocean, with transportation to and from the island.

Local sources in Socotra told "Yemeni Youth Net" that water leaked into the ship that was heading from the port of Ash Shihr in Hadhramaut to Socotra Island, with about 30 people from the archipelago on board.

The sources reported that the ship continued sailing for more than four days on the road from Ash Shihr to Socotra, noting that the normal time to travel the distance is only 48 hours.

According to the sources, the forces present in the Qalansiyah Directorate, located west of Socotra, were able to rescue the ship that was sailing 9 nautical miles from the shores of Qalansiyah.

The people of Socotra are constantly exposed to drowning accidents and dangers during their travels, as a result of their transportation in old and dilapidated ships, in addition to the turbulence of the sea, the lack of Yemenia flights to the archipelago, and the high ticket prices.
