Haaland leads Manchester City to victory over West Ham, Arsenal draws against Brighton

Norwegian star Erling Haaland, Manchester City striker, continued his brilliance by scoring a hat-trick to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over host West Ham United in the third round of the English Premier League.

Haaland scored the first goal after ten minutes, benefiting from a pass from his Portuguese teammate Bernardo Silva.

The London team equalized after an own goal scored by Manchester City defender Ruben Dias, after a cross from Jarrod Bowen in the 19th minute.

The Norwegian striker restored his team's lead with a second goal with a powerful shot into the net from inside the penalty area in the 30th minute.

Manchester City settled matters in their favor with a third goal by Haaland in the 83rd minute after a pass from his teammate Matheus Nunez, who participated as a substitute in the second half.

The Norwegian goal machine raised his tally to 7 goals to top the list of the competition's top scorers this season after three rounds, and scored his second hat-trick after a hat-trick against Ipswich Town in the last round, in addition to a goal against Chelsea in the first round match.

The Manchester City star also celebrated his 70th goal in 69 matches for Manchester City in the English Premier League since joining the team from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

With this victory, Manchester City took the lead in the standings with 9 points, achieving a perfect score with three consecutive victories, while West Ham United's tally froze at three points in fourteenth place.

Arsenal draw against Brighton

Arsenal fell into a trap of a 1-1 draw against its guest, Brighton, in the third round of the English Premier League, Saturday, at the Emirates Stadium.

After German international Kai Havertz opened the scoring for the London club (38), Brazilian Joao Pedro (58) equalized the score for Brighton, who have not lost yet this season.

The pivotal moment in the match came after Declan Rice was sent off at the start of the second half (48) after receiving two yellow cards, leaving the Gunners to complete the entire second half with ten players.

The two teams are tied on seven points from two wins and a draw, with Brighton having the better goal difference.

Other matches

Aston Villa returned from Leicester City's ground with a 2-1 win on Saturday. Villa took the lead with two goals scored by Belgian Amadou Onana (28) and Colombian John Duran (64), and Leicester City responded with a goal by Argentine Facundo Boananote (73).

Ipswich earned their first point this season by drawing 1-1 with their guest Fulham. Liam Delap scored for the former (15) and Fulham's Spanish winger Adama Traore equalized (32).

The match between Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton ended in a draw with the same result. New Zealander Chris Wood scored for Nottingham Forest (10) and Frenchman Jean-Ricquer Belgarde equalized for Wolverhampton (12).

Everton squandered a first win this season that was within their reach when they took the lead over their guest Bournemouth with two goals scored by Michael Keane (50) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (57), but they fell by three when the guests responded with three goals in the final minutes of the match by Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo (87), Lewis Cook (90+2) and Colombian Luis Sinisterra (90+6).

Brentford inflicted a heavy defeat on Southampton 3-1. The goals for the winner were scored by Cameroonian Brian Mbeumo (43 and 65) and Congolese Yoanne Wissa (69), while the Japanese Yukinari Sugawara scored a goal (90+5).

This is the third consecutive loss for Southampton since the beginning of the current season after returning to the elite.
