48 people have died in 4 Iranian provinces due to poisoning from drinking adulterated alcoholic beverages during the past two weeks.

The Iranian newspaper Hamshahri reported on Sunday that hundreds of people were poisoned after drinking adulterated alcoholic beverages in the provinces of Mazandaran, Gilan, Hamadan and Zanjan.

She pointed out that 48 of those poisoned died, while others lost their ability to see.

She confirmed the arrest of those responsible for producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages.

It is worth noting that alcohol consumption is prohibited in Iran, and some people resort to producing it secretly using primitive methods.

Some people sometimes use methyl alcohol in the production of drinks instead of ethyl alcohol because it is cheaper, which causes poisoning that may lead to death and loss of vision.
