Police said they arrested about 200 demonstrators protesting Israel's war on Gaza during a sit-in outside the New York Stock Exchange on Monday.

Protesters chanted, “Let Gaza live” and “Down with the occupation” outside the historic Stock Exchange building in lower Manhattan.

“The reason we are here is to demand that the U.S. government stop sending bombs to Israel, stop profiting from the genocide that Israel is committing against Palestinians in Gaza,” said Beth Miller, political director of Jewish Voice for Peace, which organized the demonstration, according to the Associated Press. “Because what has happened over the past year is that Tel Aviv is using American bombs to kill communities in Gaza, while the arms companies on Wall Street are seeing their stock prices skyrocket,” Miller said.

A number of counter-protesters waved Israeli flags and tried to silence the chants in solidarity with Palestine.

None of the pro-Palestine protesters managed to enter the scene of the clash, but at least 200 people managed to get through a security fence on Broad Street, where they sat and waited before being detained.

A spokesman for the exchange declined to comment on the protest.

Police arrested the protesters one by one, tied their hands behind their backs with plastic handcuffs, and took them to pickup trucks.
