Today, Monday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak visited the 120-megawatt solar energy station in the Buraiqa district in the temporary capital, Aden.
The Yemeni News Agency "Saba" reported that the station is expected to enter service within the next few days, after completing the final checks that precede the operation phase.
Bin Mubarak was briefed on the components of the station, which was built on an area of one million and 600 thousand square metres, and was provided by the United Arab Emirates to support the electricity generation capacity.
Those in charge of the station confirmed the 100 percent completion of the project, the start of final checks, and the start of trial operations before entering service and discharging its energy production with a generating capacity of 120 megawatts in the coming days.
Bin Mubarak listened to an explanation of the stages of completion of the solar power station project, which included the installation of more than 211,000 solar panels, more than 900 kilometers of electrical cables, 43,000 holes and a metal structure, in addition to 12 substations and 9 kilometers of high-voltage lines. And a major transfer station.
Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak chaired a meeting with the company implementing the project, in the presence of the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mana bin Yameen, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Engineer Anis Baharitha, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman.
He thanked all the efforts made in implementing this vital project, which is the first and largest strategic project to generate electricity through clean and renewable energy in Yemen.
He praised the UAE support in this aspect, which will reduce the cost of generating electricity and achieve a success story that can be built upon and the establishment of similar projects in other governorates.
He pointed out the government's keenness to encourage partnerships with donor countries and organizations to develop feasible and strategic solutions to increase generating capacity through renewable energy and encourage its use.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of turning the success of this project into a starting point within a comprehensive vision to find sustainable solutions in the electricity sector and alleviate the suffering of citizens.
He noted the current trend to create a training and qualification institute for Yemeni cadres in the field of renewable energy, and pride in the work of this station in maintenance and operation with 100 percent Yemeni cadres.
