The United Nations has confirmed its continued efforts to release its employees and employees of international organizations and diplomatic missions who have been kidnapped in the prisons of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia in Yemen for more than a month.

“It has now been more than a month since the majority of them were arbitrarily detained,” United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in the daily press conference held at the United Nations headquarters on Friday, noting that four colleagues at the United Nations have been detained since 2021. .

He added, "Senior United Nations officials continue to work through all possible channels to secure the immediate and unconditional release of those arbitrarily detained."

He stated thatEarlier this week, the Secretary-General of the United Nations sent a message of solidarity to the organization’s staff in Yemen, in which he said that “he remains deeply concerned about the safety of Yemeni United Nations staff, workers in national and international non-governmental organizations, diplomatic missions, civil society and partners who... They were arbitrarily detained by the de facto Houthi authorities.”

“We, national and international non-governmental organizations, diplomatic missions, civil society, and other partner staff should never be targeted, nor should we ever be arrested or detained while carrying out our tasks for the benefit of the Yemeni people,” the UN spokesperson said.

The UN spokesman called on the Houthis "to immediately and unconditionally release all of them, and to treat them with full respect for their human rights, and to be able to contact their families and legal representatives."
