The Russian Federation announced its intention to reopen its embassy in the city of Aden, declared the temporary capital of the Yemeni government, after years of closing its embassy in Sanaa, which is under the control of the Houthi militia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during talks with Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh in the capital, Moscow, on Thursday, that the goal of reopening his country's embassy in Aden "is to improve communication and coordination with the Yemeni government," according to the official news agency, Saba.
Lavrov affirmed Moscow's support for the legitimate leadership in Yemen and for peace efforts led by the United Nations, according to the agency.
Tariq Saleh welcomed Russia's decision to reopen its embassy in Aden, praising Moscow's steadfast support for Yemen.
Saleh stressed the depth of historical relations between the two countries, and the Presidential Leadership Council's commitment to strengthening and developing them.
The talks discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries at various levels, the need for collective international efforts to advance peace initiatives in Yemen, and the involvement of all parties under the auspices of the United Nations and international brothers and friends, and the importance of unified international action to achieve regional stability and protect maritime security, especially in the Red Sea.
The two sides stressed - according to the agency - the importance of continuing coordination and consultation to enhance the partnership and support mutual interests between the two countries, as well as supporting the reactivation of the Yemeni-Russian joint committees.
