Yemeni Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak renewed his call on Wednesday for support for his government to regain control over the Yemeni coasts to ensure the security of the Red Sea, while criticizing the United Nations and the international community’s disregard for the violations and crimes of the Houthi militias.

The Yemeni News Agency "Saba" reported that Bin Mubarak received the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez, and his accompanying delegation, who is visiting Yemen for the first time, to learn about the effects and repercussions of the terrorist attacks by the Houthi militia on international navigation.

During the meeting, the security situation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden was reviewed, in light of the Houthi terrorist threats and attacks on commercial ships and international navigation, and cooperation between Yemen, the organization and its member states to enhance joint coordination and raise the capabilities of the agencies concerned with maritime security and safety in Yemen.

The Prime Minister touched on the developments in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden resulting from the Iranian-backed Houthi piracy that has disrupted navigation in this important maritime passage, and the resulting humanitarian and environmental disasters, in addition to the continued detention of the Galaxy Leader ship and its crew.

He stressed the responsibility of the United Nations and its member states to support the Yemeni government in regaining control over the Yemeni coasts to ensure the security of the Red Sea, considering this a national, regional and international interest.

He pointed out the importance of the visit of the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization on this important visit and the understandings that can be reached to strengthen the frameworks of partnership between Yemen and the organization, and enhance coordination to confront the increasing challenges facing international navigation in one of the most important vital passages in the world.

The Prime Minister stressed Yemen's commitment to implementing the international agreements and treaties it has joined in the International Maritime Organization, and its intention to form the National Committee for Maritime Security.

In turn, the Secretary-General of the Organization reiterated that protecting maritime navigation is an important priority for the Organization, including preventing the deterioration of maritime security in this important region.

The official pointed out the organization's support for the Yemeni government and coordination with it in all measures guaranteeing the protection of maritime navigation, and urged the organization's member states to support its capabilities in this regard.

In another context, the Yemeni Prime Minister said that the continued dealing of the United Nations and the international community with the terrorist Houthi militia in the same manner, and turning a blind eye to its violations and crimes, which have reached the level of campaigns of repression, kidnapping and abuse against UN and international employees, will not lead to achieving peace.

Bin Mubarak, while receiving today, Wednesday, in the interim capital, Aden, the Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen, Sarhad Fattah, and his accompanying delegation, affirmed the Yemeni government's support for the efforts of the UN envoy and all international and regional efforts aimed at ending the war and achieving peace.

Bin Mubarak listened to a briefing from the UN Deputy Envoy on the results of recent moves at the national, regional and international levels to reduce escalation, and the priorities of the next stage to revive the political process, which was overthrown by the Houthi militia with the support of the Iranian regime.

The continued obstruction of the Houthi militia to implement the economic understandings and its repercussions on the catastrophic humanitarian situation and the responsibilities of the United Nations were also discussed.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government's position and positive engagement with all regional and international efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement based on locally agreed upon references and regional and international support, stressing the importance of the continued unity of the international community on the Yemeni issue and listening to the aspirations of the Yemeni people for stability and peace.
