An official source at the Yemeni Airlines Company explained the reason for postponing the operation of flights from Sanaa Airport to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, and India, after the Houthi militia announced the start of operating flights from today, Sunday.
The source told Yemen Shabab Net that the Houthi militia announced the operation of flights to Egypt and India, starting today, without prior approval from the two countries.
The source added that flights will be operated to Egypt and India, after obtaining approval permits from the two countries.
Earlier on Sunday, the Houthi militia announced that Yemen Airways had opened civil flights to Cairo and India via Sanaa International Airport, starting this evening.
Saba Agency, in its Houthi version, added, quoting a statement attributed to Yemenia Airlines, that flights from Sanaa to Cairo and back were scheduled to operate as a daily flight.
The statement stated that the Sanaa-India destination and the return were scheduled for two flights per week, indicating that the Cairo and India destinations were opened in implementation of the agreement recently announced by the UN envoy.
Last Tuesday, the UN envoy announced an agreement to reduce the escalation of the Yemeni banks and airlines crisis, which included resuming Yemenia Airlines flights between Sanaa and Jordan, increasing the number of its flights to three daily, and operating flights to Cairo and India daily or as needed.
