The Yemeni Council of Ministers approved, on Tuesday, the restoration of the activity of Aden’s refineries as a free zone, stressing the progress of comprehensive economic, administrative and financial reforms.

This came during a cabinet meeting in the temporary capital, Aden, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, according to the Yemeni news agency “Saba.”

According to the agency, “The Council approved the restoration of the activity of Aden Refineries as a free zone, as it approved the Aden Refineries Company to carry out its activity in accordance with the free zone system because it is located within the Aden Free Zone, Sector (N), which is specified in accordance with Prime Minister’s Resolution No. 65 of 1993 regarding locations and their geographical borders.”

She explained that "it will begin implementing the free zone system in the city of Aden and its amendments, and benefiting from the privileges, advantages and guarantees stipulated in accordance with the free zones law."

The Council directed the Ministers of Oil and Minerals, Finance, Legal Affairs, and Transport, the State Governor of Aden, and the President of the Free Zone in Aden, to work on translating the decision, and to direct the relevant authorities, each according to their competence, to work according to the procedures followed to implement the decision and in accordance with what was in effect before the cessation of this activity. The Cabinet reviewed the report of the Minister of Public Health and Population on the epidemiological situation of cases of acute watery diarrhea (cholera), which includes the measures taken to contain the epidemic, prevent it from spreading, treat infected cases, and the support required to overcome the challenges and obstacles to confront the spread of cholera.

The Council affirmed its support for the efforts of the Ministry of Health and its measures to limit the spread of the epidemic and the work as one team by all ministries and concerned authorities to contribute to this, especially in the awareness and preventive aspects, calling on international organizations to play their roles in supporting the Ministry of Health’s efforts to confront this pandemic.
