Al-Burhan: Sudan is a sovereign state and does not accept external dictates.. and no truce with the enemies of the people

Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said on Tuesday that his country is "sovereign and does not accept any external dictates," following the rejection of a British draft resolution at the UN Security Council that the Sudanese government saw as "imposing guardianship over peoples."
This came in Al-Burhan's speech at the first economic conference in the city of Port Sudan, east of the country.
On Monday evening, Britain submitted a draft resolution on the war in Sudan to the 15-member Security Council, calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians from the conflict that has torn the country apart since April 2023, without specifying who is responsible for implementing it.
The project was approved by 14 out of 15 members, but it faced opposition from Russia, one of the five permanent members of the council (which has veto power).
At the economic conference in Sudan, Al-Burhan said that "the solutions to end the war lie in eliminating the Rapid Support Forces," adding: "The militia (Rapid Support Forces) and those who support it will disappear, and they will not have the opportunity to enter the political arena, and they will go to the dustbin of history."
Al-Burhan stressed that "Sudan is a sovereign state that does not accept any external dictates, and does not seek to fight the world, but rather aims to take into account the interests of the people," noting that "the solution to the Sudanese problem will be internal, through dialogue between the Sudanese."
He added, "This war is at its end, and there is no chance for compromise with the enemies of the Sudanese people," stressing that "there is no future or presence for the Rapid Support Forces and its supporters in Sudan."
He said that "the future of Sudan's relations with the outside world will be based on the outcomes of the war and the positions of countries towards Sudan," explaining that the positions of some countries towards Sudan are "hostile," and others have remained "gray," stressing that Sudan "intends to treat them in the same way without compromise."
The head of the "Sovereignty Council" called on the political forces to "unite and stay away from conflicts," adding: "Now is the time for war, the withdrawal of the militia, the return of citizens, the flow of aid and compensation, and then comes political action."
He stressed that "it is too early to mix the security and political tracks," noting that he "is fully prepared to leave power after defeating the militia (Rapid Support Forces)."
Al-Burhan stressed that they "reject any political activity by the dissolved National Congress Party (the party of former President Omar al-Bashir)." He said: "We heard with regret that the National Congress wanted to hold a Shura Council conference, and this matter is rejected."
He added: "The army will not accept any political action that threatens the unity of Sudan or threatens the unity of the fighters," warning that "there is no need for any conflicts and we do not need to be distracted. We have a war and these rebels must be defeated and eliminated. After that, we will look into the matter."
Commenting on the Security Council resolution, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said on Monday: “The Sudanese government welcomes Russia’s use of its veto power in the Security Council against the British draft resolution on Sudan.”
She praised the Russian position, which she said "came as an expression of commitment to the principles of justice, respect for the sovereignty of states and international law, and support for the independence and unity of Sudan and its national institutions."
She expressed the Sudanese government's "hope that this historic precedent will put an end to the approach of using the Security Council platform to impose guardianship over peoples and to serve the narrow agenda of some powers, while ignoring transparency and democracy and enshrining double standards, which weakens the Council's role in establishing international peace and security."
Since mid-April 2023, the army and the Rapid Support Forces have been waging a war that has left more than 20,000 dead and more than 11 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
There are growing international and UN calls to end the war in order to spare Sudan a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun to push millions to famine and death due to food shortages caused by the fighting that has spread to 13 of the 18 states.
