On Thursday, Aden University condemned the attempts of some influential people, supported by gunmen affiliated with the Transitional Council, to seize the university campus lands by armed force, in the interim capital, Aden.

The university explained in an official statement that military crews supported by influential people stormed the local administration building of the Al-Buraika Directorate, and forced the Director of Public Works and the Legal Affairs Advisor in the Directorate to change their previous legal statements related to the demands of the "Awlad Hadi" to obtain building permits within the university campus, although the case is still pending before the judiciary.

The statement stressed the university's categorical rejection of these actions, which it described as "barbaric and illegal," denouncing the use of force and threats to obtain false statements.

The statement praised the position of the Director General of Al-Buraika Directorate, Dr. Salah Yahya Al-Shoubji, describing him as a model of a responsible and honest statesman, calling on all officials to take similar positions to protect the university’s lands.

The university also stressed its continuation of legal procedures and the necessary escalation to preserve its lands and not to relinquish them under any circumstances, no matter how great the challenges.

Aden University called on the judiciary, the Public Prosecution, the Presidential Leadership Council, the Prime Minister, the local authorities, the Supreme Council for Higher Education, and all concerned parties to take urgent action to protect the university campus from repeated robbery attempts and violations.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the university’s adherence to legitimacy and the law, stressing that the methods of pressure and threats practiced by some influential parties are inconsistent with values and ethics, while the university remains committed to its principles and the power of the word, seeking to preserve the future of science and education in the country.
