Fishermen in the Shihir area, affiliated with the directorate of Ghayl Bawazir in Hadhramaut Governorate, have returned to practicing fishing at sea after about eight years of being banned by the UAE forces based at Al Rayyan Airport.

Local sources told "Yemeni Youth Net" that the fishermen of Shihr started fishing today on the coasts of the region, breaking the restrictions imposed on them by the UAE forces for nearly 8 years.

Activists on social media circulated videos of groups of fishermen celebrating their return to fishing on the coasts of their region.

During the past months, fishermen have held protests, sit-ins, and closed main roads east of Mukalla, demanding that the local authorities and Emirati forces lift the fishing ban and allow them to return to practicing their profession, but they have not received any response.

It is noteworthy that the UAE forces based at Al Rayyan Airport had prevented the fishermen of the Shihr area from engaging in any activity on the coasts of the area, which is located near the port of Ad-Dabbah, which had a negative impact on their lives and doubled their suffering.
