Demonstration in Mukalla city denouncing the deterioration of living conditions

On Tuesday, the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadhramaut Governorate, witnessed a popular demonstration called for by the Hadhramaut Comprehensive Conference, denouncing the deterioration of living conditions and demanding what was described as “Hadhramaut’s legitimate rights to wealth and independence of decision-making,” despite the obstruction of the arrival of some protesters coming from the east of the governorate.

The demonstrators confirmed their support for the Hadhramaut demands announced by the Hadhramaut Comprehensive Conference and the Tribal Alliance, expressing their rejection of any circumvention of these demands by any party, whether at the central level represented by the Presidential Leadership Council or the local level represented by the local authority.

The protesters strongly condemned the attempts to divide the Hadrami ranks, which agree on the demands, and the attempt to show disagreement over them, which is carried by the Hadramout Tribal Alliance and the Hadramout Comprehensive Conference.

The protesters said in a statement during the stand, "The Presidential Leadership Council is concerned with responding to the implementation of Hadhramaut's legitimate demands."

The statement called on "the leadership of the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance, the Hadhramaut Comprehensive Conference, and the youth stationed on the Hadhramaut Plateau to remain steadfast as long as the demands and rights are not met, and that there is no way for everyone but to continue the escalation to seize Hadhramaut's rights."

Security forces (affiliated with the Hadrami Elite) prevented demonstrators coming from Ash Shihr District and the eastern regions of the governorate from passing through the Ad-Dabba checkpoint to participate in the demonstration in Mukalla.

A source in the Hadramout General Conference told Yemen Youth Net that the protesters were forced to hold a peaceful protest in front of the security checkpoint in Ad-Dabba, in protest against the prevention of them from continuing on their way to the city of Mukalla.

The source added that the people of Ash Shihr District and the eastern regions held Hadhramaut Governor and Head of the Security Committee, Mabkhout bin Madi, responsible for these "unjustified" abuses, whom they accused of issuing orders to prevent their passage.

At the beginning of this August, the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance set up armed points along the plateau (the oil fields area), and prevented the passage of fuel tankers, two days after warning that it would “seize the land and wealth” if the Leadership Council and the government did not respond to its demands.

The Tribal Alliance demands the implementation of the decisions taken by the Hadhramaut General Conference issued on July 13 (these demands are related to services and administrative affairs in the governorate).

Last Monday, the Hadhramaut Tribal Alliance announced that it would allow the passage of quantities of derivatives required to operate electricity and water stations, and to supply the local market in the governorate with diesel, provided that the price of one liter does not exceed 700 riyals.
