Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Ati, today, Monday, where opinions agreed on the seriousness of the regional scene and “condemnation of Israel’s escalation policies,” according to what the Egyptian presidential spokesman said.

Fidan said during a press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, “Our region is witnessing a cordon of fire, and we stress the importance of close cooperation between our two countries.”

He stressed that the war on Gaza represents a major threat, and that Turkey infers from Israel’s assassination of the head of the Political Bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, that its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu does not want a ceasefire.

Fidan said in this regard: “The chief ceasefire negotiator (Ismail Haniyeh) was despicably killed as a result of an assassination carried out by Israel.”

He added: "The owners of Israel must hold its collar," pointing out that Palestine took a "constructive position" during the negotiation process, while Israel was the party that was "obstructing the negotiations."

Turkey had condemned the assassination of Haniyeh in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on July 31, and President Recep Erdogan described it as a treacherous and despicable operation, saying that it targeted the Palestinian cause and the resistance in Gaza.

Regarding the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip as a result of the war, Fidan said that Israel wants to kill the Palestinian people in the Strip through starvation.

He pointed out that before arriving in Cairo, he visited Al-Arish and Rafah near the border with Gaza, stressing that Egypt plays an important role in delivering aid to the Strip.

Genocide claim

Fidan also announced that Turkey will submit the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, a request to join South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel before the International Court of Justice.

On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of committing genocide crimes against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He stressed that those who support Israel "unconditionally and unconditionally are the main responsible for destabilizing the foundations of the international order."

He added, "Those who consider the occupation of Ukraine a crime turn a blind eye to what the Israeli invaders are doing in Gaza."

Fidan pointed out that his country is making intense diplomatic efforts, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to prosecute the “perpetrators of the massacres” in the Gaza Strip.

The Turkish minister said, "It is no longer acceptable for the United States of America to try to mitigate all the wrongs committed by Israel."

For his part, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said that he discussed with his Turkish counterpart the situations in Gaza, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and the Red Sea.

Abdel Ati continued, saying, "Our message to the world is to work to stop the war in Gaza and allow aid to arrive without conditions or obstacles."

He added that he discussed with Fidan the efforts of Egypt, Qatar and the United States to reach an end to the war in Gaza, and he also stressed the importance of implementing the two-state solution and ending the Israeli occupation.

In the same context, the Egyptian presidential spokesman said that the president stressed during his meeting with the Turkish guest that “the Middle East is going through a very delicate and dangerous turning point, which requires the highest levels of self-restraint and raising the voice of reason and wisdom.”

He added that opinions agreed during the meeting on the seriousness of the regional scene, "and the Israeli escalation policies were condemned," along with the importance of continuing efforts to deliver relief aid to the residents of Gaza who suffer from inhumane living and health conditions.
