In a lengthy analytical article in Haaretz, Israeli military analyst Amos Harel sheds light on the potential repercussions for Israel after Donald Trump wins a new presidential term.

He said that despite his support for Israel, Trump's victory could create complications in Israeli-American alliances, especially if Trump chose to direct his policies to achieve "his own interests first" without sufficient consideration for the alliance with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

Harel stressed that Netanyahu was anticipating, and even hoping, for Trump to win, saying, “Netanyahu anticipated, hoped, and believed that this would be the result, a landslide victory for Donald Trump.” He added that Trump would return to power, it seems, with little restriction.

“Trump has always been an enigma: volatile, selfish, and unpredictable,” the writer said, predicting that the former president may take a more independent approach this time than he did in his first term, taking advantage of the absence of some retired military leaders who tried to guide his policies at the beginning of his first term.

Despite Trump's repeated rhetoric about his unlimited support for Israel, the Israeli analyst made observations about the complexity of Trump's relationship with Netanyahu, noting that Trump, despite his support for Netanyahu, sometimes expressed unexpected positions.

For example, Trump was publicly angry when Netanyahu congratulated outgoing President Joe Biden on winning the 2020 presidential election, prompting Netanyahu to be cautious in his future dealings with Trump. Netanyahu took the initiative to congratulate Trump on his victory within moments of the results being announced this time to avoid any potential controversy.
