Trump shot while playing golf

Donald Trump's campaign said Sunday that the former US president was "safe after a shooting incident in his vicinity," while sources familiar with the matter said law enforcement officials believe the incident was targeted.

CNN reported, "The former US president was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach when the shooting occurred. The course was immediately closed."

"President Trump is safe following a shooting incident in his immediate vicinity. There are no further details at this time," Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Cheung said in a statement.

The Secret Service said it is investigating an incident involving former President Donald Trump, in conjunction with the Palm Beach County, Florida, Sheriff's Office, according to a post on X.

CNN quoted informed sources as saying that "officials believe that the shots fired at the Trump International Golf Club were directed at the former president."

The sources added that an AK Kalashnikov was used in the shooting.

A law enforcement official said a vehicle was stopped in connection with the incident nearby.

According to a White House statement, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the security incident involving Trump while he was golfing earlier Sunday, and that both were "comfortable knowing he is safe."
