The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to urgently intervene and pressure the Houthi militia to reveal the fate of journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy, who has been missing in Houthi militia prisons for more than a month, and to allow his family to visit him and seek his release.

This came in a statement in which it renewed its deep concern over the condition of journalist Al-Mayahy, following a statement by the journalist Al-Mayahy’s lawyer in which he revealed his “inability to search for him with the de facto authorities in Sana’a, which have been hiding him since September 20 in difficult kidnapping conditions and refuse to respond to the Public Prosecution’s directives to allow his family to visit him, reveal his fate, and transfer his file to the Public Prosecution.”

According to Al-Mayahy’s lawyer, the Houthi judicial authorities did not oblige the Security and Intelligence Service in Sana’a to disclose the place of detention of the colleague or allow his family and lawyer to visit him, despite all the false rumors about his death, which caused them indescribable harm.

The Syndicate condemned and denounced in the strongest terms this oppressive and arbitrary targeting of an unarmed journalist who expressed his opinion on an issue that concerns his community, holding the Houthi group fully responsible for the life and safety of journalist Al-Mayah.

The Journalists Syndicate expressed its fear that colleague Al-Mayahy would be subjected to torture and humiliation, calling on the International Red Cross to intervene to reveal his fate, allow his family to visit him, and seek his release.

The union concluded its statement by renewing its demands for the release of journalist Al-Mayah and all kidnapped journalists, writers and opinion leaders.

The Houthi militia kidnapped journalist Al-Mayahy after raiding his home in Sana'a on September 20, and confiscating some of his belongings. Since that day, the circumstances of his kidnapping have been surrounded by a disturbing secrecy.
