Journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy
The lawyer of journalist Mohammed Dabwan Al-Mayahy, Ammar Ali Yassin Al-Ahdal, said today, Friday, that the doors of the judiciary are closed in his way to reach his client Al-Mayahy, and that he has reached a dead end with the Public Prosecution, which is under the control of the Houthis.
Lawyer Al-Ahdal explained in a post on his Facebook page that the prosecution, “after more than a full month of Al-Mayahy’s disappearance, was unable to compel the Security and Intelligence Service to disclose his place of detention, or allow his family and lawyer to visit him, despite all the false rumors about his death, which caused me indescribable harm.”
He added: "As a lawyer, I often avoid publishing about the cases I plead, out of respect for the profession and appreciation for our exhausted judiciary, which can barely form a neutral and fair conviction about the cases before it..."
He added, "But the issue of the arrest of my dear friend Mohammed Al-Mayahy is primarily a public opinion issue, and I have continued to struggle to bring it back to the judiciary and the law as much as I can."
He reviewed the procedures he followed up on the Al-Mayahy case, and the intransigence he faced from the Houthi authorities in Sana'a. He pointed out that the head of the Houthi criminal prosecution in Sana'a told him, "They will probably make him call in a month and a half," asking him to be "patient."
He pointed out that the public prosecutor, before writing the letter, kept investigating the party behind the kidnapping and said sarcastically: “How do you know that it is with the intelligence services?!” He added: “As for the director of the public prosecutor’s office, he said: (The intelligence services said that they do not have Muhammad Askah, go and see him in the criminal investigation department).”
Lawyer Al-Ahdal mocked the director of the Attorney General’s office, and addressed him saying:
“We are not looking for a madman who got lost in the streets, nor an unknown person who was involved in a traffic accident. He is Mohammed Al-Mayahy, whose house was raided and the entire neighborhood was surrounded. His arrest caused a great shock to intellectuals, writers, and opinion makers. Now the Public Prosecution, which according to the law and the constitution is legally authorized to authorize the raiding of homes, is sitting like us looking for Al-Mayahy.”
The lawyer attached the Attorney General’s visa allowing him to visit his client Al-Mayahy, and the letter from the Specialized Criminal Prosecution to the Security and Intelligence Service to report on Muhammad or send him with the priorities to it to take action according to the law, and no response has been received for more than two weeks.
The Houthi militia kidnapped journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy on September 20, after storming his home, due to his opposition to the coup group.
