On Sunday, the Association of Mothers of Abductees and the SAM Organization for Rights and Freedoms launched an urgent humanitarian appeal to the negotiators in Muscat to release all the abductees, led by Muhammad Qahtan, without restrictions or conditions.
Earlier today, new negotiations to exchange prisoners were launched in the Omani capital, Muscat, between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Houthi militias, under the supervision of the United Nations.
A joint statement said: “We, SAM Rights Organization and the Association of Mothers of Abductees, address this appeal with hopeful hope to all negotiators in the Sultanate of Oman, and call on them to exercise national and humanitarian responsibility, and to work hard to end the file of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons as a humanitarian file not subject to political calculations.”
The statement added, "We demand the postponement of any cases that may hinder the conclusion of this file, and we call for revealing the fate of the forcibly disappeared, led by politicians Muhammad Qahtan and Mustafa Al-Mutawakkil, and all those disappeared in all Yemeni prisons by all parties in accordance with the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, which stipulates “The right to know the truth about the fate of the forcibly disappeared.”
He continued: "In these crucial moments, we appeal to you to put humanity above all else. The suffering of detainees, abductees, and their families deserves to be a top priority. This file is not just a political issue, but rather a humanitarian issue that affects the lives and dignity of individuals."
The statement called for postponing any issues that might hinder the resolution of this file, so that we can give these detainees and their families hope for a better future, stressing that postponing these issues will enhance the chances of reaching peaceful and humanitarian solutions.
He said: "We value any humanitarian effort made by mediators in the Sultanate of Oman, and we call on them to continue working to bring viewpoints closer and bridge the gap between the various parties. These efforts represent a glimmer of hope for the families of detainees and abductees."
The statement called on all influential mediators in the detainees’ file to exert more pressure on the conflicting parties to reach a clear path to peace.
He added that the eyes of the families of detainees and abductees are fixed on Amman, filled with hopes that this round of negotiations will be decisive and bring joy to every Yemeni home. We hope that your efforts will bring joy to the hearts of these afflicted families.
He stressed the need to exercise national and humanitarian responsibility in these crucial moments. He said, "We are certain that ending the file of detainees and kidnapped people will constitute a major step towards achieving peace and stability in Yemen."
The statement concluded by saying: "We believe that you, as negotiators in the Sultanate of Oman, have the ability to make a real difference in the lives of thousands of Yemenis who are impatiently awaiting the return of their loved ones. Let us work together for a better future for Yemen and all its people."
