Journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate said on Monday that journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy is being subjected to retaliatory measures by the Houthi group, expressing its concern over the circumstances of his kidnapping since September 20.
In a statement, the union expressed its "deep concern over the circumstances of the disappearance of journalist Al-Mayah and all its journalists, calling for an end to the state of disappearance of journalists and their immediate release."
The union said, "More than a month has passed since the kidnapping of journalist Mohammed Al-Mayahy in the Houthi group's prison in Sana'a, due to his writings and opinions, under mysterious and disturbing detention conditions."
She pointed out that "the information obtained by the Journalists Syndicate indicates that the Houthi group in Sana'a has not allowed communication with Al-Mayahy or visiting him since his arrest on September 20 from his home in Sana'a, and that he is being subjected to retaliatory measures."
The union held the Houthi group responsible for the safety of colleague Al-Mayahy and revealing his health condition and the circumstances of his detention, warning against the consequences of the oppressive treatment of journalists and throwing them into the depths of prisons, as happened previously with the kidnapped journalists, most notably journalist Wahid Al-Sufi, who has been forcibly disappeared since 2015.
The Houthi militia kidnapped the writer Al-Mayahy from his home on September 20, and refuses to allow his family to communicate with him, in revenge for his journalistic writings opposing them.
It is noteworthy that the militia had kidnapped hundreds of Yemenis in areas under its control in response to their celebrations of the anniversary of the glorious September 26 Revolution.
