Rula Al-Mansoub and her mother died in a water barrier in Marris

A woman and her daughter drowned in a water barrier in one of the towns of Al Dhale Governorate (southern Yemen), in a repeated tragedy witnessed by most Yemeni countrysides in light of the absence of public water projects.

Local sources said that a girl named "Rula Nayef Saeed Al-Mansoub" died yesterday, Saturday, by drowning while she was washing clothes in a water barrier in the village of Al-Qadam, which is affiliated with the Maris area, north of Al-Dhale.

The sources added that the girl's mother tried to save her daughter, but she also drowned and followed her daughter in an accident that shook the region.

The sources indicated that the efforts of the residents failed to rescue the two victims due to the delay in their arrival and the lack of rescue means.

Many Yemeni villages lack public water projects, which forces mothers and girls to go to ponds and water barriers to fetch water or use it to wash clothes. These risky journeys cause drowning accidents that claim the lives of dozens every year.
