An armed gang led by a taxi driver in the capital Sana'a attacked a Yemeni family who had just returned from the city of Aden early Tuesday morning to obtain passports for family members.

Yemeni journalist Saddam Abu Asim said that the incident occurred at 3:00 AM, when the father and his two daughters arrived at Bab al-Yemen from Aden and took a taxi to take them to his house.

According to journalist Abu Asem in a post on his Facebook page, the driver stopped in the “Sa’ila” area, claiming that his car had run out of fuel, and left under the pretext of looking for gasoline, before returning with five armed men on motorcycles, who threatened the family and stole their money.

Abu Asim confirmed that the father tried to defend himself and his two daughters, but the gunmen were able to steal the money he had.

Abu Asem pointed out that the family escaped certain death after a saloon car arrived and stopped next to them to help them. The father fled with his two daughters to it, and the car took them to their home, while the gunmen fled.

This incident reflected the security situation in the capital, Sana'a, under the control of the Houthi militia, the deterioration of the economic situation in the country, the spread of militants, and the security chaos.

The family was afraid of the deteriorating security situation in Aden, so they hesitated for a few months to go to get their passports, but they found what they feared in Sana'a.
