Security campaign to prevent the movement of weapons in Taiz

The joint security campaign in Taiz Governorate began, on Sunday, implementing the decision to ban the carrying of weapons in the city of Taiz, coinciding with an expected visit by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, to the governorate in the coming days.

The Security Media Center in Taiz stated that the campaign is made up of security and military units, and aims to prevent the carrying of weapons in markets and public places and to establish security and stability.

According to the center, the campaign, which was led by the security and order officer and commander of the security campaign, Colonel Walid Al-Asali, also aims to prevent the movement of weapons by civilians and military personnel who are not authorized by the axis leadership and the security institution leadership and who have been granted permits to carry weapons only while performing their duty and in official military uniform.

The center quoted the Director General of Taiz Police, Brigadier General Mansour Al-Akhaly, as saying, "The joint security campaign is determined to establish the pillars of security and stability," stressing that it "will strike with an iron fist anyone who violates the decision to ban the carrying of weapons and will not be lenient in performing its duties assigned to it in accordance with the law."

Late Sunday evening, the leadership of the joint security campaign confirmed its keenness to ensure that the procedures for implementing the decision to ban the use of weapons proceed through a sound and organized legal mechanism.

The campaign leadership circulated to all soldiers and citizens in the city of Taiz a model of the weapon receipt document approved by the campaign leadership upon arrest at any point, patrol or round. It will be implemented starting from today, Monday, August 26, 2024 AD.

The security committee in Taiz city had approved a ban on the use of random weapons inside the city starting yesterday morning, Sunday, stressing that it would confiscate any unlicensed piece.

According to the security media, the joint security campaign confirmed that it will seize, confiscate and destroy any unlicensed weapon or weapon used outside official duties, and that it will deal firmly and strictly and in accordance with the law with anyone who violates this announcement.

The campaign called on all citizens, soldiers, officials and members of the public to adhere to the issued instructions and not to roam around with weapons inside the city for the benefit of all, to achieve security and stability and to maintain public tranquility.

This comes in light of the governorate's preparations for an expected visit by the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, who is expected to visit the city of Taiz in the coming days for the first time since his appointment as Chairman of the Leadership Council in April 2022.
