Six houses collapsed in a number of districts in Ibb Governorate (central Yemen) during the past 36 hours, bringing the total number of collapsed houses in the governorate since the beginning of August to 13 amid a rainy wave that has hit the country.
Local sources in the city of Yarim (north of Ibb) said that two houses in Al-Maidan neighborhood collapsed last night due to the continuous heavy rains.
The sources explained that the two collapsed houses are located next to the Grand Mosque, and the first was empty of residents, while no human losses were recorded among the residents of the second house.
In the old city of Ibb, a house collapsed on Monday/Tuesday night, simultaneously with another house in the city of Jableh, without causing any human casualties.
Two houses also partially collapsed in Al-Ma'in neighborhood, northwest of Ibb city, due to torrential rains, amid warnings of dangers threatening 20 families living near the torrents in the same area.
With this result, the total number of houses collapsed due to floods in the governorate reached 13, three of which were partially destroyed (6 Jablah - 2 Yarim - 2 Al-Mashnah - 2 Al-Dhahar - 1 Al-Radmah).
In the past few days, Ibb Governorate witnessed heavy rains that caused the death of 9 people and affected 1,500 families, in addition to causing significant damage to property, the road network, and the erosion of agricultural lands, according to UN reports.
