The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has approved urgent support to address the damage caused to some historical buildings in the city of Zabid, which is listed on the World Heritage List, due to the heavy rains that the country has recently witnessed.
Our country's representative to the organization, Dr. Muhammad Jamih, said that the UNESCO Emergency Fund approved a request he had submitted earlier to allocate urgent support to address the damage resulting from heavy rains that led to the collapse of some buildings in the historic city of Zabid, which is listed on the World Heritage List.
Jamih explained in a post on his Facebook page that he received a letter from the Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for the Culture Sector, Mr. Ernesto Otton Al-Kandif, stating that the Fund approved the disbursement of $98,000 for urgent intervention in Zabid.
Our country's representative pointed out that the UNESCO Regional Office in Doha will implement the project.
