A recent UN statistic revealed that 41 people were killed or missing, more than a thousand families were affected, and hundreds of homes were destroyed as a result of the recent floods that hit Al Mahwit Governorate (northwest of Yemen).

The United Nations Population Fund ( UNFPA ) said in a tweet on its account on the "X" platform on Thursday that the catastrophic floods that swept through the Malhan District in Al Mahwit Governorate last Tuesday, as a result of the continued rainfall and the collapse of three dams, have caused the death and loss of more than 41 people so far.

He added that ongoing assessments indicate that 24 people have died, while 17 others are still missing, in addition to 1,020 families affected in the area.

The UN Fund explained that the floods caused severe damage to 270 homes, 40 of which were completely destroyed, and 230 were partially destroyed, and also caused internal roads to be cut off.

He stressed that the emergency response teams he leads are making great efforts to reach those affected and provide them with relief aid.
