Drivers complained about the return of the collection points affiliated with the UAE-backed Transitional Council in the Al-Hadd Yafa’a District in Lahj Governorate (southern Yemen).

A number of transport workers said that the collection points in Al-Hadd-Yafa Directorate have once again imposed financial levies on them.

They added that the personnel at these checkpoints stop trucks and refuse to allow them to pass unless they pay 50,000 riyals for each truck.

This comes about two weeks after a campaign that targeted a number of collection points spread across the interim capital and the rest of the governorates under the control of the Transitional Council, amid ongoing protests by workers in the transportation sector.

The financial levies imposed by the Transitional Forces deployed along the main roads in the governorates under their control are one of the most troubling problems for heavy transport drivers, who have held widespread protests in recent periods to demand an end to these levies.
