On Wednesday evening, a local official in Shabwa Governorate survived an assassination attempt in an armed ambush in the Upper Egypt District of the governorate, southeastern Yemen.
A local source told Yemen Shabab Net that tribal gunmen opened fire on the car of the director of the Upper Egypt Directorate, Sheikh Abu Bakr bin Farid Al-Awlaki, in the Al-Masaha area, while he was on his way from Ataq towards Upper Egypt.
He added that the ambush resulted in the injury of two of Sheikh Al-Awlaki’s companions, namely: (Abd Rabbuh Al-Awlaki and Sarwah Al-Awlaki), one of whom was seriously injured.
The source indicated that Al-Awlaki's members clashed with the militants, who later withdrew from the area.
