Yesterday, Sunday, Ataq International Airport received the first flights coming from Aden International Airport after a hiatus of about ten years.
According to official media, Ataq Airport received a plane belonging to the Belgian Doctors Without Borders organization. The plane was received by the Undersecretary of Shabwa Governorate, Fahd Al-Khalifi, and the Director General of Ataq Airport, Salem Hamed.
Shabwa Governor Awad bin Al-Wazir welcomed the re-operation of Ataq International Airport, expressing his happiness at the airport receiving the first flight after flights had been suspended for several years.
He also expressed his hope that all international organizations would resume their flights to Ataq Airport, given its importance. He stressed that the return of air traffic to the airport would serve the governorates.
The Minister reiterated that the airport is now qualified to receive various flights, looking forward to operating domestic and international flights to and from Ataq Airport.
