The Syndicate of Mineral Water, Beverages and Juice Manufacturers continues its strike for the fourteenth day in a row, in protest against an illegal Houthi dose of raising taxes on factories by 20 times.
Merchants, citizens, and eyewitnesses told Yemen Shabab Net that some mineral water prices rose from 1,500 riyals per carton to 2,200 riyals for the old version.
Pictures circulated by activists on social media indicate that grocery stores and commercial centers are empty of water in Sanaa and the governorates controlled by the Houthis.
Bloggers posted on social media that the prices of some types of water had increased from 100 riyals per bottle to 200 riyals for a one-quarter liter bottle.
This comes as sources close to the Yemen Mineral Water Syndicate said to Shabab.net that merchants’ stocks are about to run out and drinking water will be completely absent from the market.
The sources confirmed that soft drinks and juice factories are also about to stop due to the Houthis confiscating trucks of raw materials necessary for production.
The Houthi militia raised a huge price dose on this sector without a law from its House of Representatives, which did not have a quorum.
