Transport trucks in Yemen - Archive
The Houthi militia imposed new levies targeting the heavy truck transport sector, in the latest series of escalations through which the militia seeks to control this vital sector.
Documents and bonds obtained by "Yemeni Youth Net" showed that the Houthi militia imposed illegal levies amounting to 50 thousand riyals for each day of delay in the old edition, or approximately 100 US dollars, a week after the truck entered.
According to documents obtained by the website early this week, the Houthi militia imposed a one-week deadline on Yemeni drivers who drive commercial transport trucks with non-Yemeni license plates, most of which come from Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, and the Sultanate of Oman, from the moment the truck leaves the Houthi separatist ports to its areas, and then imposes a fine of $100 for each day of delay.
Yemeni drivers said that the new decision will lead to their dismissal from the labor market, as the Houthi deadline of one week is not enough for the truck to reach the warehouses, unload, and return, due to the limited time for trucks to travel on the roads. The decision also prevents them from meeting their families or repairing their trucks, and costs them exorbitant amounts of money.
For years, the Houthi militia has been working to cut off main roads and impose new transportation companies, especially through the trucks of the Economic Corporation and other offices, and through companies such as Ali Al-Hadi Company, which stormed the Chamber of Commerce, to control the transportation sector in the areas under their control.
