A general strike by clothing merchants in Sana'a

Fabric traders in the capital, Sana'a, continued their general strike for the second day in a row, in rejection of an illegal dose imposed by the Houthi militia on customs duties of clothing and fabric traders without legal justification.

Special sources told "Yemeni Youth Net" that the textile and clothing merchants in the "Bab Al-Salam" neighborhood in Sana'a are continuing their strike for the second day in a row, in rejection of a Houthi dose imposed on the customs of clothing merchants and related activities under the pretext of encouraging local industry.

The sources confirmed that the militia imposed customs on the container of 30 million riyals in the old currency, while the merchant in Aden pays customs of 2 million riyals in Qaiti, which is equivalent to less than one million riyals at the Sana'a exchange rate.

The Houthi militia justified this dose to limit the import of fabrics, clothes, shoes, bags and related activities, under the pretext of encouraging local industry.

Traders were surprised by these Houthi justifications that want local industry in light of the power outage and the lack of local textile factories, stressing that the Houthi demands are flimsy and have no goal other than destroying the economic sector.

The traders pledged to continue the strike until the Houthi militia rescinds its decision to impose the new dose on the clothing market.

Economic experts confirmed that these Houthi measures aim to drive away merchants and force them to leave in search of investment opportunities in other countries with the aim of making a broad replacement with merchants loyal to them.
