The preliminary results of the vote counting process in the Jordanian parliamentary elections, which took place yesterday, Tuesday, revealed a remarkable advance for the Islamic opposition, as the candidates of the Islamic Action Front Party obtained 32 seats so far.

The unofficial results of the 20th parliamentary elections in Jordan began to appear at dawn on Wednesday, after a turnout of 32% of those eligible to vote in 18 electoral districts across the country.

According to the preliminary results, the Islamic Action Front party candidates won about 18 seats on the party list after counting about half a million votes, in addition to the party’s advance on the local lists by about 14 seats.

With these results, the movement won 32 seats at the expense of the pro-government and leftist parties, which is unprecedented in its history and reflects the current popular mood towards the parties in light of what is happening in and around Jordan.

1,623 candidates are competing on 197 local and general lists for the 138 seats in the House of Representatives (the first chamber of parliament). The elections are being held according to a new law that has allocated 41 seats out of 138 to parties in the 2024 elections.

The Independent Election Commission is expected to officially announce the results of these elections within 48 hours of the closing of the ballot boxes, which took place at 7:00 pm yesterday, Tuesday (16:00 GMT), while the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, Musa Maaytah, confirmed that the official results will be announced at a press conference this evening.
