Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed today, Thursday, that any attempt to displace Palestinians from the West Bank to the Kingdom is tantamount to a declaration of war on Jordan, during a press conference with his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

He added that the Israeli measures on the ground killed all chances of achieving just peace in Palestine, noting that his country supports the prisoner exchange deal, but it was obstructed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who changed his positions and withdrew from his commitments.

He expressed his rejection of the allegations promoted by Netanyahu regarding the Philadelphi Corridor and the borders with Jordan, and stressed that his country would not accept any approach that treats the Gaza Strip as a separate part of the West Bank, and he also called on Israel to withdraw from Gaza.

He said that Jordan is aware of Germany's position on Israel, noting that its support is by standing against it and against its violation of international law.

He also called on Germany to impose sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers such as Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich for violating international law.

Safadi warned that the explosion of the situation in the West Bank would lead to a wider war in the region, saying that "the Israeli aggression on the West Bank is driven by the mentality of elimination and killing all chances for a two-state solution."

He also stated that Jordan is preparing a legal file regarding the storming of holy places because it is "playing with fire that will burn the entire region," calling for practical steps to be taken to hold the Israeli government accountable.

"The deal is important"

For her part, the German Foreign Minister said that her country rejects any change in the status of the holy sites, describing the "extremist" statements of Israeli ministers as "irresponsible" in a press conference with her Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.

Baerbock sent a message to Israel stating that it is not possible to combat what she described as "terrorism" in Jenin and the cities of the West Bank by destroying the infrastructure, as she put it.

She expressed her country's concern about the increasing violence of settlers in the West Bank, noting that Israel, as an occupying power, is concerned with protecting civilians from settler attacks.

She also stressed Germany's rejection of any attempts to destabilize security in Jerusalem, stressing the need for a humanitarian truce, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Rafah crossing, and increased aid to the people of Gaza.

The German Minister pointed out that establishing permanent peace in the region requires a humanitarian truce and guarantees, and therefore the prisoner exchange deal is important.

She said that peace can only be achieved in partnership with Arab partners in the region.
