Egypt and Saudi Arabia warned against brinkmanship policies, and stressed the need to stop the widening circle of conflict in the region, and to begin steps to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and to address the worsening humanitarian conditions.
The Egyptian presidency said that President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman agreed on the seriousness of the regional situation and the necessity of stopping the escalation.
The Egyptian presidency also explained that the Egyptian president and the Saudi crown prince stressed that establishing a sovereign Palestinian state is the only way to achieve peace, and they also called for the initiation of calming steps that include a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
This came in a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency following a session of talks between the two sides in Cairo, which the Saudi Crown Prince visited today, Tuesday.
Sisi and Prince Mohammed bin Salman warned that attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause would cause the conflict in the region to continue.
They called for the initiation of calming steps, "including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, addressing the worsening humanitarian conditions, and stopping brinkmanship policies, in order to stop the widening circle of conflict."
They also stressed the need to respect Lebanon's sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity, and stressed the importance of continuing coordination and joint cooperation to overcome the current critical stage that the region and the Islamic world are going through.
The Egyptian presidency statement said that the talks witnessed "a review of the ongoing efforts to develop the Egyptian-Saudi economic partnership, especially in the field of investment exchange, trade exchange between the two countries, and economic integration in the fields of energy, transportation, and tourism."
The statement also reported that at the conclusion of the talks, Sisi and Prince Mohammed bin Salman witnessed the signing of the formation of the Egyptian-Saudi Supreme Coordination Council, headed by the Egyptian President and the Saudi Crown Prince, and an agreement to encourage and protect mutual investments between the two countries.
The Saudi Royal Court announced today that the Saudi Crown Prince's visit to Cairo comes to discuss with Sisi ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
