In one of the surprises of the Euro 2024 football tournament, Georgia won 2-0 over Portugal, today, Wednesday, to qualify, along with Portugal and Turkey, to the quarter-finals of the tournament held in Germany, in its first participation in the Euro.

Georgia qualified after raising its score to 4 points among the top 4 teams that ranked third in their groups, along with Slovenia, the Netherlands and Slovakia, and will play in the 16th final against Spain.

Portugal had already clinched its qualification, as well as the top spot in Group F, after winning 2-1 over the Czech Republic and 3-0 over Turkey, and will meet in the 16th final with Slovenia.

The Turkish team also qualified on Wednesday in second place in the group with 6 points after a 2-1 victory over the Czechs.

Georgia deprived Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo (39 years old) of achieving a new record for him, as he left the field and was substituted before achieving his hope of scoring, breaking the record that Croatian Luka Modric (38 years old) snatched a few days ago, and becoming the oldest player to score in the tournament. Europe throughout its history.

The match started at a fast pace, and Georgia caused a surprise when it opened the scoring only 93 seconds after the starting whistle, with a surprise attack led by the brilliant Kvaratskhelia, who advanced into the penalty area and shot a powerful ball with his left foot into the net.

Portugal's attacks continued in search of an equaliser, to no avail, as Ronaldo was closely monitored, and he wasted many opportunities as a result of pressure on him.

The referee stopped the match in the 55th minute, to review the video technology to ensure that Luka Lucoshvili was obstructed by Antonio Silva, and after the review, he awarded a penalty kick for Georgia, from which the brilliant Mikautadze scored his country’s second goal in the 57th minute.

Ronaldo lost the opportunity to break the record for the oldest player to score in the European Championship during today's match, when he left in the 65th minute, looking angry and frustrated as he left the field.

Türkiye defeats the Czechs
Turkey scored a late goal to thwart an enthusiastic comeback from the Czechs, beating them 2-1 and securing second place in Group F of the 2024 European Football Championship on Wednesday, and booking a date with Austria in the round of 16 on July 2.

The Czechs, who qualified for the quarter-finals in the last edition of the tournament, needed a win in Hamburg to have any chance of qualifying from Group F, but attacking midfielder Antonin Barak received a red card in the 20th minute, greatly harming their plans.

Turkey's captain Hakan Calhanoglu's goal came in the 50th minute to increase the Czechs' suffering, but Tomas Soucek was able to score the equalizer 16 minutes later to restore some hope to his team.

But Türkiye secured victory with a wonderful stoppage-time goal scored by Cenk Tosun.
