The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, stressed that dialogue, calm and peace should be given priority in Yemen.

This came during discussions he held with senior American officials to discuss developments in the situation in Yemen following the recent Israeli attack on Hodeidah.

The UN envoy's office said in a statement that Grundberg concluded a visit to Washington on Friday, during which he met with senior American officials to discuss developments in Yemen and explore ways to support an inclusive political process to resolve the conflict.

According to the statement, Grundberg met during his visit with the Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, John Bass, the Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs, Michelle Sison, the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, and the National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, and the US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking.

The statement explained that the UN envoy reviewed, during his meetings, the challenges that hinder mediation efforts in Yemen, including regional developments and the disturbing path of escalation in Yemen since the beginning of the year.

Grundberg stressed the need to give priority to the path of peace, dialogue and calm in Yemen, and he also stressed the importance of concerted regional and international support to achieve this goal.
