UN envoy discusses with British officials support for peace efforts in Yemen

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, discussed with British officials supporting peace efforts in Yemen.
The UN envoy's office said in a statement (Friday) that Grundberg concluded a visit to the British capital, London, during which he held high-level meetings with senior officials.
The statement added that the UN envoy discussed with Hamish Falconer, Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, and Anneliese Dodds, Minister of Development Affairs, enhancing international efforts to support Yemen's path towards stability, and ensuring a coordinated approach to overcome current challenges and make progress towards permanent solutions.
According to the statement, the UN envoy highlighted the economic challenges, escalating tensions in the Red Sea, and broader regional dynamics, stressing the impact of these escalations on the peace process in Yemen.
“Unified regional and international support for UN-led mediation efforts is essential to effectively meet the urgent needs of the Yemeni people, and pave the way for a peace process that makes any progress permanent and irreversible,” said Hans Grundberg.
“I remain committed to reinforcing the Secretary-General’s call for the urgent release of all detained colleagues, and I call for their immediate release, to enable them to resume their vital work and reunite with their families who long for their safe return,” he added.
For his part, Minister Falconer stressed his country's strong support for the UN envoy in seeking to reach a political settlement to ensure lasting peace in Yemen.
In a statement on the X platform, he called on the Houthis to engage meaningfully with the UN process, release detained humanitarian workers, and stop their dangerous and destabilizing attacks in the Red Sea.

These meetings are part of a series of intensive meetings in London over the past few days to discuss the Yemeni issue, where British officials met with the US envoy to Yemen, Linder King, the US ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, and the Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber.
